Microsoft Access Relationships: TWO fields in table1 relate to SAME field in table2?
Is this possible?
I have a table with an aircraft timetable.
Basically, I have a field called 'Origin', and a field called 'Destination' in my 'Timetables' table. Both tables contain a 3-letter airport code for where the aircraft will originate from and where it will be destined.
I have another table called 'AirportData', which will contain information about each airport - airport code, airport name, city, country, lat/long, etc.
Is it possible to link both 'Origin' and 'Destination' fields from 'Timetables' to the 'Code' field in my 'AirportData' table through the use of relationships?
In a query, I'd like to be able to display the name of the airports in the timetable. For example, a flight could be originating from JFK and be destined for LHR. The query will be able to look up the airport name and say it's destined from New York to London Heathrow.
The problem I am having is that after Access has joined the Timetables.Origin and AirportData.Code fields, it can't also join the Timetables.Destination and AirportData.Code fields because that field is already joined to the Origin.
The only solution I can see is to create AirportData tables - 'AirportDataOrigin' and 'AirportDataDestination'. This obviously isn't ideal though, because it means having duplicate data.
Can anybody help me?
