Are American conservatives still very patriotic?
Barring the Tea Party folks of course, since, come on, who takes them all that seriously? But yea, back in like..2004, when I was little (Im 18) I remember the Bush types were talking about how America was "the best country in the world" constantly. It was almost as if one's Americaness has to be proven. Today, it seems like the cons are mostly libertarians with a mix of Romney-like business types. Also many cons have a skepticism towards the national government that the Republicans 8-10 years ago didn't have. Many supported the Iraq invasion blindly; I don't see that happening today. So yea, are those types of cons still left in American politics? I only know of one, John Hawkins, who writes for RightWingNews.com... he is so reminiscent of a Fox News mouthpiece it is ridiculous. Don't think I'm attacking ppl who are patriotic, it's more a criticism of the irrational hyper-patriotism that followed 9/11, and the observation that today's conservatives are quite different from that in some ways. @Pdooma, well said, good sir. @Hobit, if that's true, THAT is very disturbing.
